Act or Be Acted Upon
Happy Thanksgiving...Merry Christmas...Happy New Year.
You know, sometimes I think that I'm JUST not cut out to be the consistent blogger that I always envision myself becoming. I know that is flat out lie though.
Saying instead that "I am responsible," and admitting that I am blaming my inconsistent behaviour on an innate character flaw in order to hide from said responisibilty; is the truth.
Although I understand this intellectually, it has been extremely DIFFICULT for me to accept this emotionally. The reality that my health, my finances, my relationships, and my life are all a result of the choices I have made in the past is a hard pill to swallow right now. However, as the ugliness of this truth reveals itself, so too does the beauty.
We are who we are because of what we choose. Not some predetermined fate, or what others have done to us, or really anything outside of ourselves. It's not what happens to us, but our response to what happens that hurts us. (And by us I mean the center of who we are...our character). How empowering!
This year I am not committing to any quick fixes. No get righ quick, or manipulation schemes. I am investing in myself, my relationships, my health, my finances, my life, and my future one promise kept... at a time...As promises kept are the building blocks of trust and trust is the foundation of any healthy relationship.
"They Cannot take away our self respect if we do not give it to them." -Gandhi
Promise One: I will realize that I am my choices.
